As I'm sure you can all tell from my updating schedule, law school keeps me busy. I probably don't even have any readers anymore, but for the few of you out there, I wanted to do an update.

I got my grades from first semester a couple of weeks ago, and I didn't do as well as I'd hoped but I did perfectly fine. I'm hoping to improve this semester, and (at least so far) that looks doable. I just have to fight my natural tendency toward laziness and actually study more.

This semester, I have two of the same classes as last semester (Contracts and Civ Pro), and I have the same profs for both. For Contracts, this is a good thing. For Civ Pro, not so much. It's by far my least favorite class, both because of the insanely boring subject matter and the insanely scary prof (she is a nice person, but her lecture style is hard to follow, particularly when she's trying to get us to read her mind).

My two new classes are Criminal Law and Property. Most of what people think of when they think of Criminal Law (Law and Order, etc.) is actually criminal procedure, which is a separate topic we'll do in second year. Criminal Law deals more with the theory behind crime and punishment - what makes an act criminal? What punishment fits what crime? That kind of stuff. I'm looking forward to it, because it's an interesting topic and the prof is young, friendly, and funny.

Property is one of those classes that can be deadly boring if you have the wrong prof. Fortunately, I have the right one. He's great at giving examples that clearly illustrate the concepts and make us laugh, and the class always goes quickly. Plus, the history geek in me digs that so much of modern property law is essentially medieval in nature.

Over break, I ran around North America and managed to see pretty much everyone in my family and group of friends. I spent about two weeks in Cleveland with my mom and grandpa, then headed out to Denver for a few days with my dad and stepmom. That was a nice vacation. Good food, good wine, good books, great skiing, and cute cowboys (we went to the annual Stock Show and Rodeo while I was there). After that, I went to Canada for a few days to see my friends in Guelph, who I've neglected shamelessly since beginning law school. Once I got back here, I had a great birthday dinner with my best friends and went to a couple of parties, but other than that it's just been peaceful and getting back into the school routine.

Business-wise, I haven't done much lately. I need to get some more advertising out in the city, and see if I can contact the people who won my photo shoot at the charity auction I mentioned in the last entry (they have my info, but haven't called). I also have to find a computer geek to help me finally set up my portfolio on my own website.

I have such a fascinating life! Kidding aside, it's fun. I still love law school, and I still love Ithaca. Things are good.
